The Poker Channel

The Poker Channel is the world’s first television channel dedicated entirely to the game of Poker. It launched initially in the UK on March of 2005 and was conceived by Crispin Nieboer, at that time Commercial Manager at British Sky Broadcasting, and James Hopkins, Sky Sport’s producer of Poker Union. It was after the success of similar channels broadcasting Poker TV shows in the USA that they decided to install a Poker channel in the UK.

The Poker Channel provides coverage of both pre-recorded and live Poker on TV of the major Poker tournaments from across the globe, as well as coverage of the most important Online tournaments where Online Poker players compete in front of a TV audience of millions of fans.

The Poker Channel also commissions series that explore the roots of Poker and gets under the skin of both the game and it’s players by showing the viewers the various angles of this card game, both from a human perspective and from observing and learning the skills of pro-players.

The Poker Channel is broadcast to over 15 million cable and satellite homes in 12 markets. The channel's programming can also be watched at several Online Poker Channel destinations including pokerchanneleurope (dot) com, Youtube, Vuze, Joost, Zattoo and Blinkx. The channel controls the rights to over 500 hours of Poker programming, being the largest library of Poker programming in Europe.

The Poker Channel is one of the main responsibles of the increasing popularity of Poker in the UK along tournaments like the Great British Poker Tour and the British Poker Open.
