Ace-High:

A hand that has an ace but no pair of cards.

Aces-Up:

A two-pair combination, the highest of them being aces.

Ante:

An agreed nominal bet required from each player before the start of a hand.

Back Door:

To back door a flush or straight is when the last two cards make a player's hand.

Blind:

A forced bet made by the two players to the dealer's left made before any cards are dealt.

Call:

It means to match the previous bet.

Deal:

To distribute the cards to each player.

Dealer:

The player who is distributing the cards.

Deck:

The standard pack of 52 playing cards.

Deuce:

The 2 cards of any suit, also called a "duck".

Flop:

The first three community cards, which are turned up before the start of the second round.

Flush:

A group of five cards of the same suit.

Fold:

To lay down a hand.

Hand:

A player's set of five cards.

Lay Down:

To fold one's hand. It often refers to folding a reasonably good hand.

Lock:

The winning hand, a hand which is unbeatable.

Pair:

Two cards of the same rank.

Pot:

The money or chips in the centre of the table.

Rank:

The value of a card. Each card has a suit and a rank.

Royal Flush:

The best possible hand consisting of the cards 10-J-Q-K-A, all of the same suit.

Shuffle:

Mixing of the cards before and between deals.

Tilt:

Going 'on Tilt' means to lose control of one's emotions and play badly.
